The Traffic Offenders Intervention Program ("TOIP") is an education program for drivers to learn more about the importance of doing the right thing on our roads. It is used as a sentencing or pre-sentencing option in Courts where people are facing Court for serious traffic offences, such as drink driving. It aims to reduce the chances of people committing further such offences.

Run in Bathurst by the PCYC, the seven components to the programme see experts present on topics to create a greater awareness of unsafe driving practices and the consequences.  We are pleased to be able to regularly present to participants on the Legal System as it applies to serious traffic offences.

The Program has the following components:

• Driving facts
• Alcohol and other drugs
• Victims of Road Trauma
• The legal System
• The Accident Scene
• The Police Force
• Crash Consequences

The content is designed to be informative, but also confronting.  The brochure for the programme comes with a warning that some of the video presentations shown in the course are of a graphic nature.

Those who attend the course are much less likely to re-offend, a fact not lost on the Courts when imposing a sentence. The Court can take into account attendance at the TOIP as a reason to reduce the fine and disqualification which may otherwise have been applied.

The Traffic Offender Intervention Programme runs in Bathurst over two consecutive Saturdays from 9am to 3pm and the cost of the program is $150. For more information on the programme contact the Bathurst PCYC on 6331 2191.
