KENNY SPRING Junior Womens Team B2B Weekend 10&11 April 2010

Saturday 10th April 2010 was the first event for the newly formed Womens Team.

NSW State Hill was the first event, starting in Harris Park out side the famous Mt Panorama Race Start line and heading west towards the Boundary Rd access to the top of Mt Panorama. The 4.1 km test was an individually time event, With State Medals at stake it was an all out maximum effort the full 4.1km. In the hotly contested Under 15 Womens class, Hollee Simons (Bathurst)won Silver just 8 seconds behind the Gold Medal winner E.Nichols (Tamworth Club) . Emma Apolony (Dubbo)was just outside the medals in a creditable 4th place , with fellow Team members Meg Coffee (Dubbo) 7th, Cyntarah Micarelli (Orange)8th and Jess Marshal (Bathurst) 9th, with all doing personal best times for the course. Bec Dunn was seeded fastest for the Under 17 Women, based on her speed thought the track season, unfortunately a extensive season on the track, took it toll on the hill Climb with Bec finishing a creditable 5th place.

Criterium racing was fast and furious, Saturday also. With large groups racing a high speed around the Mt Panorama Pit Complex taking in the famous Pit Entry Road and Pit Lane. Kenny Spring Girls were at the front of the race and featured in an aggressive assault on the event. Jess Marshal, Meg Coffee and Cyntarah Micarelli left the start 45 seconds ahead of the scratch marker, and kept the pressure on for the first few laps until the chasers caught. Last lap of 10 had Emma Apolony at the front closely followed by MacArthur rider Josie Talbot and Hollee Simons in an ideal 3rd position with ½ lap to complete when a touch of wheels brought Hollee Simons down in the esses causing chaos in the chase group, all managing to avoid adding the situation.

With out the fellow Team member Simons, Apolony was forced to open up the sprint early and lead out Josie who wound up in shelter of the lead rider to cross the line just centimeters ahead of Apolony with Cyntarah Micarelli 3rd, Jessica Marshall 4th, Meg Coffee 5th and Hollee Simons crossing with a big hole in the new Team Kit and missing some skin.

The Blayney to Bathurst, or the B2B was a great spectacle, with thousands riding the two courses, 110 or 70km Short Course.

Record times were recorded in the Short Course, with local Bathurst Woman Jodie Martin taking out the prestigious open womens categories. In 7th place Woman overall was Hollee Simons followed 2second behind by Emma Apolony with the two girls being awarded 1st and 2nd Under 15 Women Category only 10 minutes off the winning time of Martin. A truly fantastic result for the Team with only one other Junior Under 19 woman finishing ahead of them. Cyntarah Micarelli had a solid ride into 4th U15 with Meg Coffee and Jess Marshall in 6th & 7th . As predicted on Friday The Kenny Spring Womens team dominated the U 15 category and smashed any change for other to feature.

Rebecca (Bec) Dunn rode in what has to be her least favorite discipline, (as an Australian Track Sprint Champion) that is a road race, let alone a 70km event, and showed the depth of a true champion by going deep in her own suit case of courage and placing 2nd in the prestigious Under 17 Category.
